Sustainability

At The Bull, we’re committed to being a responsible citizen for our community and the environment. We believe in making choices that not only benefit our guests today but also help protect the future of our beautiful town. From sourcing local ingredients to reducing waste, we’re continually looking for ways to improve our sustainability efforts, ensuring that every visit to The Bull supports a greener, more sustainable future.

Locally Sourced, Thoughtfully Served

We’re proud to source much of our food and drink from within Suffolk, supporting local farmers, producers, and suppliers who share our passion for quality and sustainability.

Choosing local means fresher ingredients, a smaller carbon footprint, and a direct contribution to the region’s rich agricultural heritage. From seasonal vegetables to Suffolk-reared meats and locally brewed ales, every plate and pint at The Bull reflects our commitment to provenance, community, and care.

Our Philosophy is simple

1.
There’s a natural rhythm to the year that stirs memory and emotion — the scent of herbs in summer, the warmth of a winter stew, the colours of autumn on a plate. The seasons guide our cooking, offering their best in turn. By listening to what nature gives us, we create food that feels familiar yet fresh, rooted in place and time, and full of quiet comfort.
2.
If you want the freshest, most vibrant ingredients, local is always best. That’s why around 90% of our fresh produce comes from growers and suppliers within an hour of Woodbridge. It’s food that’s fresh, not flown — full of flavour, low in food miles, and rooted in Suffolk’s rich landscape.
3.
Mindful Meat – We believe good meat begins with good farming. That’s why we work with local farmers who care for their animals and the Suffolk landscape in equal measure. Whenever possible, we choose organic, grass-fed beef, free-range Blythburgh and Dingley Dell pork, and chicken from trusted producers in Stowmarket. We proudly serve Gressingham duck, renowned across the UK, and source seasonal game from local keepers. With such exceptional produce on our doorstep, there’s simply no need to look beyond sunny Suffolk.
4.
Sustainably caught fish from our local ports in Lowestoft, Orford and Felixstowe. Day boats not trawlerboats.
5.
We keep packaging to a minimum and recycle everything we can – from cardboard and plastics to glass and tins. You might spot stacked trays in the car park; they’re reused by our local suppliers to cut down on waste and avoid unnecessary packaging. It’s all part of our effort to tread lightly. And when it comes to produce, we’re all for the odd bump or blemish – flavour matters more than looks. Ugly fruit, not Ugli fruit.

Reducing our environmental impact

Beyond sourcing responsibly, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact throughout The Bull. From recycling initiatives, energy-efficient lighting, improved insulation across the building, water savers and cutting down on single-use plastics, we’re making conscious choices every day. We compost food waste, encourage the use of reusable cups, and look for new ways to minimise energy and material waste.

Sustainability is a journey, and we're proud to be taking meaningful steps—big and small—to ensure The Bull remains a place where great food, drink, and community come together with care for our environment.

A Taste of Suffolk

Our Restaurant

Good food, made simply and with care. Our restaurant offers a changing menu based on the best seasonal produce from around Suffolk. Whether you’re in for a long lunch or a quiet dinner, it’s a space to relax and enjoy honest cooking.

Local Beer & Wine

Suffolk is rightly celebrated for its brewing heritage, and at The Bull, we proudly showcase this rich history. At any one time, three of our six real ales are typically sourced from local brewers, alongside a refreshing Suffolk lager.

Sustainability

Sustainability is part of how we do things every day. From working with local suppliers to cutting down on waste in the kitchen, we try to make practical choices that are better for the environment, our suppliers and our customers.

Magificent

Magnificent, the welcome, the beer, the food, the room, the breakfast. I travel a lot and The Bull Inn at Woodbridge is the best place I've stayed at in a long while, and the previous night I was in a four star hotel.

"Proprietors are wonderful hosts providing an exceptional service - warm, friendly and efficient. This ensures guests can relax in all areas of this historic building whilst enjoying the medieval Market Square on which The Bull occupies a prominent position. The outdoor benches allow guests to enjoy a beverage 'on the Square' creating a continental vibe. In addition the hotel provides first class cuisine including not to be missed breakfasts!"
